Empowering Women and Taking a Healthcare Stand
Women from around the world need to be empowered now more than ever. There are specific indicators of women social empowerment including gender inequality base, fertility rates, sex ratios, and life expectancy rates. These indicators show you the status of women, in general, in terms of availability of health care and birth control facilities, literacy, their educational status, economic growth, age at marriage, their participation outside of the home, and literacy rates.
Gender inequality is prevalent on a worldwide scale. If you look at major countries in the world, the base of gender inequality remains to be very poor. For sex ratio in Asia, the numbers are against women. Though life expectancy has significantly gone up all over the world, the general status of women has still not changed much. You will find a decrease in fertility rates among women in the world. While this is a good thing, its positive impact is not as much as most people want. In terms of literacy rates, there are gender gaps around the globe. For developing countries, the rate of literacy for females is not promising.
Until this day, many factors affect global women empowerment. One of them is the issue on healthcare. Others should never undermine the health of women in society and even themselves. There should be much value to the health of women and the healthcare services they require. The thing about women’s health is that they go through different stages in their lives with difficulty in terms of their health. The thing about women and their healthcare needs is that they are never similar to men and their healthcare needs.
Despite global efforts to provide for the healthcare needs of women, some methods are still prejudiced against women. Some people commit heinous crimes against women and their health. You also see the world dealing with high maternal mortality and infant mortality rates. One of the reasons for these high rates will be the existence of early child marriages.
A lot of women around the globe don’t have adequate access to quality health care. Women’s reproductive rights are belittled where they are not allowed to make informed choices. Affordable family planning methods are also not provided to some women across the world. In this regard, women don’t get appropriate knowledge and education on the matter. Women show vulnerability across contagious and infectious diseases and STDs.
Clearly, the women’s knowledge about health care and nutrition are old school. They will not recognize alternative medicine methods and not even use them properly. For the best results, both alternative methods of medicine and current healthcare systems should work together. Women can get quality health care that is reasonable when you combine these systems. The efforts of the government through women’s healthcare associations are also of great help. There are now many healthcare clinics established for the benefit of women.
